The genesis and historical development of comparative science are discussed and issues of terminology, methodology and practices are clarified, so that postgraduate students acquire the critical vocabulary and theoretical background necessary for comparative literary studies. At the same time, the main theoretical axes of the interpretation of intertextual literary and cultural relations are examined and the fields of comparative research in the Black Sea area are delimited, such as the influence of a literary work on the individual national literatures, the interaction between the literary traditions of the Black Sea Countries, the literary path of themes and motifs, the relations between the Black Sea literatures and other artistic means.

“History of National Literatures in the Black Sea Region”

The course aims to present students with a brief overview of the main trends in the literature of the Black Sea countries (Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia and Turkey) mainly from the 19th century to the first decades of the 21st century.

“Topics of Comparative Literature in the Black Sea Area I”

In these courses, the instructors, after consultation with each other, will choose a topic: for example, historical novel, detective story, magic realism, etc. Other potential topics could be gender and sexual identity, issues of multiculturalism, nature and environment, human rights / refugees, literature and minorities, literature and cinema, music (intermediality) etc. It is also possible to approach issues related to cultural or literary imagology, which is a branch of comparative studies and researches the representations of the Other and its ethno-racial stereotypes (ethnotypes) in literature and texts in general as verbal constructions. Based on the thematic axis that will be chosen each time, examples from the Black Sea literatures will be presented.
